About Drive Me Bananas
Drive Me Bananas was formed by Jonathan Smith ADI one Sunday evening in the summer of 2007, the name "Drive Me Bananas" was thought up and the first edition of the website was live that night. Prior to setting up Drive Me Bananas Jonathan had been working as a Driving Instructor in Edinburgh and the Lothians working under Franchise with 2 local schools. Prior to becoming a driving instructor in 2005 Jonathan worked as a Merchant Navy Navigational Officer with a number of large shipping companies around the world. He also worked as a Bus driver with Lothian buses and drove open top tour buses around the city. As well as driving tour coaches and school buses for a local coach company.

In November 2007, Drive Me Bananas
embarked on an Epic Driving Lesson to raise money for Children in Need,
Jonathan pictured left (in his trademark grey hat) supervised 2
learners and a recently passed pupil as they drove from Edinburgh to
John O'Groats and back raising over £800 for the charity. Jonathan is seen next to his younger brother Adam who kindly followed the group in his own car during the trip. Adam was Jonathan's first pupil prior to becoming a driving instructor! Adam passed first time at the old Joppa test centre days before going to Police College. You could probably blame Adam for Jonathan's decision to become an instructor! |

training is carried out to maintain our high standards. |

 Having passed the articulated lorry driving test, Jonathan is licenced to drive all classes of lorry and trailer as well as buses with trailers. Jonathan has been offering training in large vehicles for a few years, in 2009 Drive Me Bananas purchased a custom made yellow trailer in order to provide car and trailer training. Jonathan now passes on his large vehicle experience to car drivers who wish to learn how to tow safely. |
In
2008 Drive Me Bananas started offering Automatic driving tuition and
fitted additional adaptions to our training vehicle to allow drivers
with physical disabilities to drive. Jonathan works closely with the
staff at the SMART centre in Edinburgh helping drivers with various
disabilities remain independant. Our first Adapted car was replaced in
2009 with our current Ford Focus Automatic. Jonathan has had the great
pleasure of serving drivers who have MS, lost legs through amputation
as well as clients who have had strokes.  |
